Gradient LRWA meeting puts waterproofing and best practice at top of the agenda.

Bespoke, single-layer tapered and flat roof insulation specialists, Gradient, hosted the Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association’s (LRWA) bi-annual technical committee meeting.
The event, held at the Gradient Training Centre at its manufacturing HQ in Burntwood, Staffordshire gave association members the opportunity to discuss industry issues and share best practice advice in order to advance the roofing sector.
A total of 40 member representatives attended the meeting. It included presentations from Paul Franklin, LRWA Technical Secretary; and Nigel Blacklock, Technical Director at construction product manufacturer Bauder, who highlighted recent changes to fire regulations and testing.
Sarah Spink, Chief Executive Officer at LRWA, said: “It was a very successful meeting. The attendance was excellent, as was the venue. Gradient were excellent hosts. Trade associations such as the LRWA were set-up as a learning forum for members to share knowledge and experience. This latest meeting certainly fulfilled that criterion.”
Originally founded in 1979, LRWA has 26 manufacturer members from the liquid roofing and waterproofing sector. The association aims to raise awareness of the technical and financial benefits of specifying liquid-applied roofing and waterproofing systems. This helps to establish product and installation standards and ensure optimum performance is achieved.
As well as taking part in technical forums and workshops, attendees at last month’s meeting were given a glimpse of the recently-launched Gradient Training Centre. The facility offers theoretical training and practical exercises in a variety of roofing applications. Its overall aim is to educate and instill the highest waterproofing standards in line with current roofing regulations, and health and safety.
Laura Sockett, Business Manager at Gradient, said: “We were proud to host LRWA’s latest meeting. The feedback from its members indicates they were immensely impressed with our facilities, particularly the new training centre. This will hopefully prove invaluable as an educational hub, as the industry looks to inspire the next generation of roofing specialists.”
